It’s that joyous, beautiful, festive time of year again! Ready or not, it’s already December. We had a lovely Thanksgiving with so many blessings to be thankful for this year; and now Christmas is less than one week away.
It took me 6 days to get the tree put up and house decorated. Not because I have such extravagant decor, but due to the fact that I have to do everything in little bitty steps, one bite at a time, if I hope to get anything accomplished. (Case in point, I began writing this post 3 weeks ago and just now noticed my wall calendar is still set for November.)
This has been quite a change for me; I’m the type that loves to have things completed and can’t stand having boxes and items strewn about the house. Well, welcome to parenthood! And go figure, everything that truly needs to get done, always gets done. It’s been good for me to learn to relax and enjoy the ride. On a side note, I think I have unlocked another achievement in reaching my full Mom status, L managed to projectile spit up not only on my face but also down my shirt at the same time. She’s such a talented little girl! But in all seriousness, she makes my heart sing, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
For the moment the house is picked up, laundry is in the dryer, and L is down for a nap, so before I start a little holiday baking I wanted to try to finish this quick post. I love the holidays, and we are very excited to have our daughter at the center of it all this year. It’s difficult not being near our families, but Skype is one of the many blessings in our lives. Also, looking back at the last year I am so humbled by all of the extravagant love, joy, peace, and protection God has extended to us. Moving to the East Coast from the Midwest, going to New York City, finding out I was pregnant with our first child, then giving birth to L, having family come to visit, surviving hurricane Sandy, and now wrapping up 2012…it’s been one for the books. Some people don’t see this much excitement in a decade.
It’s a great adventure, and I try to embrace and cherish every minute of it, especially the time with my husband and our daughter. L is already 4 months old and changing daily. She is also starting to sleep for longer stretches which I’m hoping will result in a little more time for me to blog. I have lots of ideas floating around in my head that I want to get posted: a few recipes; some craft projects; and some personal suggestions for people about to welcome a new baby into their lives. So, keep watching for much more to come these next few weeks and into 2013.
I’m getting ready to make one of our family’s traditional Christmas desserts, Fudge Balls, so I need to run. But until next time, here is one of the holiday crafts I was able to get completed for the grandparents. I just bought plain glass ornaments, red acrylic paint, and gold glass paint from the hobby/craft store. On the back side we put L’s footprint then wrote her name and date on the front. As long as your child cooperates (I’d recommend trying to wait until they are in that comatose state of sleep, otherwise your kitchen will look like Jackson Pollock and a honey badger decided to redecorate, and yes, I’m speaking from experience on this one) it’s pretty easy and a great keepsake to hang on the tree.
